Game design using Scratch - MIT's free constructivist software

John Annable

on Thursday, 8 April 2010 16:00 - 17:30 in room 217

MIT, the inventors of LOGO have come up with new software which picks up the constructivist baton and runs with a Web 2.0 philosophy. Fully scripted programming allowing children to produce their own multimedia events, games, interactive art and much more. Scratch differs from earlier programming languages in two important ways: Firstly the language elements are contained in jigsaw type pieces which slot together to form the script - no more errors of syntax! Secondly the software and resources are free and fully resourced on the web.
The workshop will show the capabilities of Scratch plus the vast amount of resources available on the web for teachers to use and also give teachers a chance to have a really good go at programming their own games and events. Every participant will get a resource package free. Please have your laptop with you. Software will be supplied or can be pre loaded from http://info.scratch.mit.edu/Scratch_1.4_Download.
