on Friday, 9 April 2010 10:15 - 11:00 in room 216

We teach Yr 5 & 6’s at Ferryden Park CPC- 7 school which is a Category 1 disadvantaged school in the north western suburbs of South Australia. Our school community is truly multicultural with fifty percent of our students coming from non-english speaking backgrounds and representing 32 different nationalities.

We are one of four schools in South Australia that are DECS Learning Technologies Research Schools. Our Inquiry question is ‘How do I use digital tools to personalise and make learning more relevant and meaningful for the Z-generation?”

During this presentation we will share how we have reshaped our thinking about pedagogy and learning spaces suitable for 21st century learning. This has helped create new learning possibilities that are adaptable and engaging for students and teachers. We are endeavouring to make learning more personalised for our students through the use of digital tools & learning spaces (both Virtual & Physical).

Part of the presentation will focus on how we are using Personalisation by Pieces (PbyP) as a ePortfolio of student learning. PbyB is web based that helps students improve their ability to set themselves goals, engage with their own learning, share their achievements, mentor each other, assess their own learning and peer assess others. Learners develop their ePortfolio of best work and skills by setting themselves increasing more challenging tasks and levels of work that have been arranged in ‘skills ladders” based around key competencies. PbyP as been initiated by Dan Buckley from the UK and there are many students from around the world that participate in this and are peer assessors.
