Creating database driven websites using xampplite and dreamweaver
Greg Clarke
Workshop on Friday, 9 April 2010 10:15 - 11:15 in room 217
TAGS: Secondary School, dreamweaver, web, xampplite
This will be a hands on session where participants will develop a live website that includes database functionality. The freely available software package "xampplite" will be used to simulate a server and allow php mysql scripts to be simply created with the help of dreamweaver as a tool for rapid web development. Xampplite allows users to very simply create sophisticated data driven websites, providing for meaningful applications to senior secondary students. Xampplite incorporates an apache server, php mysql scripting and a phpmyadmin interface to work with. This session would be relevant and useful to anyone that teaches IT and has a reasonable knowledge of html and dreamweaver.
Anyone using a laptop should install the latest version of xampplite (to the root level of your thumb drive), freely available off the web (http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html#646). If you haven't done this by the day of the course, I will show you how and provide you with the software. The process is straightforward. You will also need dreamweaver, CS3 and CS4 versions are both fine (www.adobe.com).
