The F1 in Schools Competition encompasses a myriad of educational skills. To see Year 7-10 students collaborating with Engineers, using CAD (Catia) to Design cars, render and extract NC coding for a CNC router, creating ther own Informatative Website, using ICT to create promotional videos and Portfolios, working and collaboraing in a team environment, researching and understanding scientific concepts, seeking sposnsorship to finance purchases of suitable clothing as well as marketing items is truly amazing. These are just some of the things these students have to do to compete at this competition. Although they learn many computer skills at school these students really exploit the Digital environment which they use to create a professional looking F1 Team. They have to learn and apply new skills in order to compete at both a State and national level. Having been involved in this competition for 5 years as a teacher and facilitator it has given me a realistic outlook on the use of ICT and applicative learning. This experience has taught me a great deal about engaging students as well encouraging students to perform in a real professional setting.
