Presentation on Thursday, 8 April 2010 16:45 - 17:30 in room 216
Our students are living in a digital age where technology is an integral and vital part of their daily lives. Technology is transforming the way in which students engage, relate and communicate and therefore require contemporary learning environments that embrace these digital realities.
Catholic schools have a responsibility to ensure they adapt for a technology-rich future, engaging and motivating the new generation of students to prepare them for that future. Schools are looking to create contemporary learning environments where the use of technology is routine, seamless and transparent. A key component to creating these environments is in the provision of effective professional learning. Teachers need to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to ensure they are able to utilise these digital tools as part of the learning and teaching process.
The teacher in the classroom is the single most powerful influence within a school on student learning (Barber and Mourshed 2007)
Brisbane Catholic Education’s Contemporary Teaching Continuum (CTC), aims to give teachers a new vision of, and greater confidence in, embedding ICLTs. It enables teachers to work toward the goal of providing ICLTs as a seamless part of their classroom practice. This model is designed to support and guide teachers in the adoption of new practices. The CTC demonstrates the benefits of using ICLTs with clear curriculum links.
This presentation will showcase the Continuum and examine how key professional learning opportunities for teachers equips them with key skills, ideas and professional communities for collaboration and the sharing of resources. It will demonstrate how professional learning can cater for the individual needs of our teachers in an online environment.
