Coping with Change: How Carey Baptist Grammar has introduced new technologies to their staff and students
Michael Mules
Presentation on friday, 9 April 2010 11:00 - 11:45 in room Plenary Hall
Technology’s power to transform teaching and learning is often influenced more by how its users view it than its actual capabilities. The acceptance, familiarity and comfort with a new technology of the staff and students is of paramount importance to its uptake and subsequent use.
Since 2008, Carey Baptist Grammar, a 1:1 laptop school, has moved to tablet laptops for staff and Years 7-9; introduced a new Content Management System; upgraded to a new Learning Management System; and introduced several new items of software including Microsoft OneNote.
This presentation will look at how we structured the introduction, rollout and training for each of these technological changes, and how this has been reflected in subsequent effectiveness and usage for teaching and learning. Lessons learned, successes and failures will all be explored, as will the changing attitudes of staff and students towards the introduction of new technologies.
