Classroom Podcasting – From Newbie to Power User in 60 Minutes

Adrian Bruce

on Friday, 9 April 2010 10:15 - 11:15 in room 218

At the basic level podcasting can be thought of as a radio show distributed via the Internet. The creation of these ‘radio shows’ can be integrated into many aspects of the class program and school life. They can incorporate curriculum outcomes, creative processes and group skills.

The production of podcasts enables our students to create unique performances, distribute them to an authentic world wide audience and receive feedback from that audience. As teachers our challenge is to harness the literacy skills, technology use & organisational skills involved in creating classroom podcasts to produce powerful learning.

In this session delegates will listen to creative podcasts & Adrian will share some of the ‘lessons learned’ from personal experiences with classroom podcasting. Participants will record their own voices, experiment with special effects, insert sound effects to the soundscape, incorporate digital music and explore online resources for creative integration of audio software into their classrooms.

The aim of the session is that all delegates will create their own digital audio performance, convert it to an mp3 file and then upload it to a podcasting host. Delegates will leave this session with all the skills they need to begin teaching podcasting back at their school.
