More than ever, developing the competencies and social skills young people need to learn, play, socialise and participate in an increasingly 'networked' digital world is dominating the educational landscape, with ways of using socially networked environments for authentic learning emerging. The presentation will explore the concept of 'the online learning community' and how these communities extend and develop learning, in part, by challenging traditional classroom practices, pedagogy and school structures.
The presentation spotlights:
The growing importance of online learning communities.
How to develop a participatory learning platform embedded in a social network context that extends interaction, communication and collaboration.
Explore how online social networks and digital media can amplify youth voices and participation.
Develop a learning landscape that responds broadly to the needs of learners and presents them with a more diverse range of choices, both in the way content is presented, created and assessed.
Utilise online social networking features to develop new learning experiences and collective intelligence.
Develop digital literacy and 21st century learning skills.
Support learning that takes place beyond the classroom walls and the school campus.
