Nathan Lane
Workshop on Thursday, 8 April 2010 11:30 - 12:30 in room 218
TAGS: Secondary School, Blogging, ICT, LOTE, podcasting, Web 2.0, wikis
Curriculum documents in every state mandate the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) into the curriculum. Nowadays, ICT plays a significant role in the lives of students. As LOTE teachers we should embrace the technologies students use outside of the classroom and incorporate them effectively into the LOTE curriculum.
The Standards in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Domain of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) are organised in three dimensions:
• ICT for visualising thinking
• ICT for creating
• ICT for communicating
This presentation will focus on innovative classroom practice and creating an ICT rich learning environment for the teaching of language and culture which includes the three dimensions of ICT in the VELS. Participants will look in detail at:
• Web 2.0 technology: Wikis and blogs
• Podcasts and
• Photostory
The workshop will also look at what is available on the Internet for the learning and teaching of a LOTE (eg. interactive games, Voki and Google Docs)
