Shoutcast.com and other web servers allow you to run your own radio station over the internet. For a very modest cost (about $70 a month) you can rent an internet broadcasting service for up to 25 simultaneous listeners with decent sound quality.
The presenter set up a station for his school this year, created radio jingles, and then invited students and teachers to submit content, including pretend advertisements, educational pieces about current topics in classes, and musical items, including live performances.
The radio station can provide a way for the school to celebrate student learning, making students, parents, and possibly the wider public more aware of student achievement.
In this session, participants will hear samples of the internet radio broadcast, learn how to set up such a station, and see/hear free 'Audacity' software in action for the creation of audio for the radio show. Practical considerations such as the best type of headsets to use will also be covered.
Participants may want to install Audacity from http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ before the session.
